The Disconnected Society

My topic will be called The Disconnected Society. In this research paper, I will be writing about how we, as a society, are more connected than ever through the use of advanced technology, the internet, and social media, yet we are so disconnected. People rather hang out on social media, than hang out in person. Even when friends and families eat together, everyone is always on their phones. My paper/research will focus on how social media and the internet has affected us in such ways as well as try to find a solution for the problem.

  1. I like your research topic because it is truth how social media helps us to be connected with our relatives or friends, but at the same time, we are disconnected. I remember one day when my dad got upset because we had dinner and my siblings and I were with our cellphones. He said you better put your phones away, dinner is family time.

  2. I wished I could have read your arguments regarding this topic - When researching my topic of Virtual Reality, one of the biggest concerns was a disillusion to reality. Will there be a point where technology will be so fascinating that people are no longer interested in people to people interaction or an interaction with the rest of the world? While it seems outlandish now, I can definitely see that at least on a minimal, the effects of social media and other immersive media platforms have already begun affecting us. There are definitely reports about a negative impact that Facebook has on many of its users - it's interesting to see just how negative the effects of these platforms can have on us.
