Social Networking Websites

There are many social networking websites available to the public use. Some examples are facebook, twitter, instagram, and snapchat. Facebook is mainly used for sharing articles, family photos, etc. Twitter is used for every day thoughts, sharing your opinions, and advocating for certain issues. Snapchat is used to share every day moments, whether it be your morning coffee, something happening in real time on the subway, or your fancy dinner. Instagram is used to upload photos that are usually of nicer quality and content. These include selfies, amazing food photos, or vacation photos. Each social networking site has a different purpose defined by the user. I say defined by the user because you can do very similar things on almost all social media platforms but how they are used are different. For example, you can share photos on all four platforms but what you share and how you share it based on each platform are different. You might want to share nicer photos on instagram versus on snapchat, the content and quality does not necessarily have to be good.

  1. I think you make a really good point about how the purpose of social networking sites is defined by the user. I never thought of it that way, but it makes a lot of sense. So many social networking sites let you perform the same functions, but we as users have chosen to use each social networking site for a different purpose; while on Snapchat you might be more goofy and silly, on Instagram you might be a little more classy. I feel like as a society we have collectively defined the purpose of each of these social networking sites because everyone seems to agree to how they use them; like you mentioned people aim to post more aesthetically pleasing pictures to Instagram as opposed to Snapchat.
